Wayang wong is an ancient Balinese dance drama using fantastic masks of characters from Hindu Ramayana epic. Only a few villages have such sacred masks which are kept in temples, as in Tejakula in Buleng, north Bali. This young male dancer concentrates fully on his role as he enters a trance. He is playing the mythological garuda bird Jatayu who tries to rescue Sita, the wife of the hero Rama, when she is abducted by ogre king Rawana.”
