Disposed Buddhas at Pak Ou Caves

Buddhists believe that broken Buddha figures bring back luck and therefore should be disposed of at a temple or shrine. Two “Buddha Caves” – Tham Ting (lower cave) and Tham Theung (upper cave), 25 km north of Luang Prabang, have been used for centuries as a repository for old, broken and disfigured Buddha images. There are more than 4,000 Buddhas dwelling in these caves.
